EZ-Flow Workflow System
Prescription Workflow Management
HCC is pleased to offer EZ-Flow®, a flexible workflow management solution that can help pharmacies avoid costly dispensing errors and improve customer service levels.
With a shortage of pharmacists, trained technicians must be depended upon to help meet the demand for filling ever-increasing volumes of prescriptions. The pharmacist is now a supervisor of technical staff and a clinical information provider for patients.
When workloads increase, accuracy and efficiency can deteriorate unless changes are made in workflow. Implementation of safety checks, visual prompts, and prescription imaging is critical to managing increased prescription volumes. EZ-Flow makes pharmacies safer and more efficient.
EZ-Flow is compatible With HCC's Alpha-PC and Synercom pharmacy management systems.
The Process
Tote ID and Preparation
- Technicians record prescriptions in the pharmacy management software and print the prescription labels.
- Fingerprint sensors identify system operators for security and tracking purposes. A barcode scanner then identifies the tote (a small plastic basket) that the prescription is assigned to.
- Technicians take digital photos of the patient's prescriptions, save the images in the EZ-Flow software, and place the prescriptions in the tote where they stay until completion of the prescription fill or refill workflow process.
Prescription Fill
- Since National Drug Code (NDC) numbers on prescription labels and manufacturer labels must match, technicians scan the barcodes on both labels. EZ-Flow provides warning messages for barcode mismatches and tracks errors for management reports.
- While counting the required number of doses, technicians can view standard or enlarged drug images, special dose description information, and expanded drug information. Images can be captured and saved for drugs without Medi-Span photos.
- Technicians place the filled prescriptions and manufacturers' bottles in the patient's workflow tote.
Prescription Verification
- Pharmacists scan and review each new or refill prescription in the patient's workflow tote.
- Images of the doctor's original prescription order and the hard-copy portion of the label can also be displayed on the screen.
- Completed prescriptions are manually marked or automatically flagged when scanned at the POS lane, or with HCC's EZ-Sign signature capture system.
Status Check
- Prescriptions may be manually marked as complete, automatically flagged when scanned at the POS lane, or documented with the EZ-Sign signature capture system.
- Prescription status can be checked any time with a prescription number or patient driven searches.
